Many people question if indoor running is easier than outdoor but increasing the incline to 1% takes the same energy as running outdoors. If you want even more of a challenge increase the incline even more to burn extra calories.
Additionally, your joints will thank you. Running on pavement can be hard on knees due to the impact. Gravel and bumps on the ground can also lead to more injuries. If you already have any joint issues then the treadmill is a great alternative until you fully recover.
