Full-Body Workouts for Summer

Summer is almost here, which means it’s time to lose those layers and get your summer bod back in action. Working out is a great way to not only look good, but feel good. We have come up with 7 workouts for your best summer yet. These will help you stay active during the summer months. Remember it is more important than ever to stay hydrated during the upcoming season. While these workouts are simple and flexible, they will give you a starting point to achieve your summer body goal.

1. Planking
Whether your on the couch watching tv or sitting in the office, you can pretty much plank anywhere. Planking is great for strengthening your entire core, and is more effective than sit-ups. Planking is also great to improve your posture, flexibility, and balance. A good time to plank is anywhere from 15 to 60 seconds. Don’t worry if you can only do 15 seconds, take a break and do another rep, it will only help you.

2. Squats
Squats are a quick and easy way to get a little bubble on your back side. You can squat while in the shower, brushing your teeth, or even while watching your favorite TV show. Squats directly work the hips and hamstrings as well as your glutes. Another great plus when it comes to squatting is that it improves blood circulation and reduces cellulite. Bring on the swim suits!

3. Lunges
Lunges are similar to squats but with lunges you are not only strengthening your quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings, but you are also teaching your body better balance and stabilization. It is important with lunges to be careful of your knees, and you don’t hurt yourself. Also try holding small weights while you lunge to add some arm strength, or do a twist lunch to engage your core. The great time about lunging is all the upper body you can add to it!

4. Burpee
The best thing about a Burpee, is its a full body workout. Combining push-ups and a explosive squat jump, this work out hits every muscle group including arms, chest, quads, glutes, hamstrings, and your core muscles. Burpees are a great between exercise. For example, do some burpees between two different sets. Burpees are also great to do at home, make a game out of it! Every time a car commercial comes on, do a burpee. Every time your kid asks you what’s for dinner, do a burpee. It is a simple move that will help your entire body and get your heart rate up.
