Our Trainers Reveal the Worst Fitness Advice They’ve Ever Heard

Here at Fit Republic we pride ourselves on having professional trainers that know the ins and outs of how to get you where you want to be. However, it is not like that everywhere. We asked some of our trainers what is the worst fitness advice they’ve ever heard. We got back some great answers that might give you an inside look into how trainers think. We used Fit Republic trainers from our different gyms to give us the scoop on how to NOT train.

Question: “What is the worst fitness advice you have every heard?”

“Don’t eat before a workout.” – Jeremy, Manteca,

It is actually better to eat before a workout! If you do not eat before you do an activity you will have a higher chance of getting sick or passing out. This does not mean you have to eat a full meal. Try a protein bar, peanut butter sandwich, or some fruit. Just get something in your system so your body has something to burn when you start your work out.

“Cardio is the best way to burn fat.” – Rick, Corporate Wellness

There are many benefits to cardio, and there are many ways to burn fat, however they are not best used together. Cardio is a great way to get your heart rate up and start your muscles up. One of the best ways to burn fat is to train with weights. A lot of people think weights are just used to build muscle, but used right, they are great for burning fat.

“There’s no such thing as over training.” “No pain, no gain.” – Sarah, Tacoma

These go hand and hand. A lot of people thing you need to be sore after every work out and going to the gym for four hours seven days a week in order to look better. This is definitely not the case. Overworking your body and muscles that often is dangerous. It is important to remember to go at your own speed and not let others tell you how much you should be lifting or how often you should be going to the gym.

“Starve yourself and just do cardio.” – Patty, Tulare

When people want to lose weight quick, this is what they think the solution is. First off, you should always eat enough to sustain your body. There is nothing wrong with eating nutritional meals throughout the day. Not eating will only weaken your muscles and cause you to pass out at your next visit to the gym. Cardio is a good way to get exercise, but it is not the only thing you should be doing to lose weight. There are a lot of other exercises that will make you lose weight besides a treadmill.

First, losing weight is not always about eating less, it is about eating the right kinds of food. Eating a healthy amount of calories a day will improve your body. It is important that you are eating the right foods and eating enough throughout the day. Second, lifting weights is a great way to lose weight and tone your muscles. It is not all about gaining muscle and being big. There are different ways to lift weights to your advantage.

Carbs are not your enemy. However you should not eat only carbs. Eating the right amount of carbs can help you gain muscle. Put carbs together with other nutritional foods and your meal is complete. Having a healthy lifestyle is not about never touching carbs, it is about knowing how to balance carbs with other foods.
