10 Tips on How to Keep Your New Year’s Fitness Resolution

2018 is here, which means it’s time to start your New Year’s fitness resolution. Whether that means running more often, losing weight, or eating healthier, it is important to try to stick to your goals throughout the year, and not just the first two weeks. Starting a new routine can be difficult in any situation, which is why we came up with a list of 10 tips to help you keep your fitness resolution throughout the year.

1. Start small, but think big
When you outline your goals, think long term. Set goals that you can complete over time. However, do not jump into a high power workout routine if you have never worked out before. You have to pace yourself and recognize your limits. Start off with something simple and short, then gradually increase your limits to fit your long term goal.

2. Be realistic
Set a goal you know you can achieve. Of course, you want to try to push yourself, but do not set a goal you know you cannot reach. If your resolution is too far out, you will end up disappointed and upset with yourself, which does not help your health. You want to set yourself up for success and make goals that will excite you when you achieve them.

3. Write it down
Writing down your goal and posting it in a place where you will frequently see it is a great way to start your resolution. Every time you see it you will be reminded of your goal and it will give you the energy to achieve it. Post it on your bathroom mirror, your nightstand, your desk at work, or the sun visor in your car. Put your goal out into the universe and get ready to knock it out!

4. Talk about it
Tell the ones you love about your resolution. Speaking about it will make you more excited to start! Get those around you excited so you can feed off of their energy. This will also get your loved ones to cheer you on and help you stay motivated. It will also keep you from giving up.

5. Ask for help
When starting a new routine, it can get confusing. Ask for help! Here at Fit Republic we have many instructors that can help you with any questions you may have. 6. Track your progress
Keep track of what you’re doing. Measure yourself, weigh yourself, take pictures, whatever you need to do to see your progress. Doing this will give you visual representation of all your hard work! Seeing the results time after time will show you that what you are doing is working. If you are not seeing results, try switching up your routine and trying something different. 7. Keep it fun
Switch things up! Try a new form of yoga, cardio, lifting, or some other kind of workout. Walking, running, hiking, swimming, anything that gets you excited to work out. If you don’t know what you like, then try a little bit of everything. If there is something you have always wanted to try, then now is the time to do it!

8. Reward yourself
You work hard to keep your resolution, remember to put yourself first and reward yourself.  Use our hydromassage beds after working out to relax and reboot your muscles. Or take a hike at a beautiful place and have a picnic. Whatever you can do to treat yourself and reset your body.

9. Keep trying
Don’t give up. If you aren’t reaching your goals, then keep trying! Extend your goals out for longer periods of time to give yourself the time you need to really reach them. Keep going and try not to get discouraged. Having a goal is the first step, get the energy and motivation you need get yourself up and going again.

10. Don’t beat yourself up
Goals are hard to reach and they take time. Do not get upset if you aren’t reaching your goal as fast as you want. The important thing is that you set a goal and have been working hard to achieve it. Sometimes your body will fluctuate and make things a little more difficult, and that’s okay!
